Oak Hill Marina's History
LOCATED IN THE HEART OF OKOBOJI
Ambition, hard work, perseverance, and a great staff that has grown year after year are what have made what it is today. The dealership has grown from a little, remodeled convenience store/restaurant along the highway into a state-of-the-art marina that has received industry wide recognition. Besides their two beautiful showrooms, the Oak Hill Family also has 9 off-site storage facilities, an off-site rigging shop, the best of the best employees, and a great customer base.
Our motto and goal of delivering the boating dream and to maintain the boating lifestyle is very much alive at Oak Hill Marina with in all employees. Providing fun and entertainment for those who work so hard to achieve it is what makes being in the marine business rewarding.
Oak Hill Marina president and owner, Tim Sather, and our professional, reliable team provide the highest standard of operations in the marine industry.

I’ve been with Oak Hill Marina since June of 2012. I enjoy being back in the lakes area where I grew up. Originally from Round Lake, MN, I moved to Florida to earn my degree in Marine Technology. I attended the University of Kentucky before opening a marine service dealership. Although traveling and exploring different parts of the country was great, a part of me has always been in Okoboji.
I’m blessed to have two beautiful daughters, Nora and Grace. I love every minute of living, working, and playing here! In the off season, you can find me hunting waterfowl and pheasant, or traveling and hiking.

I have been with Oak Hill for 2 years now, a place where co-workers are more like family. You can find me picking up and delivering customer boats, moving boats to and from storage, and taking care of maintenance. I like the lakes area because there is always something to keep you busy and the views here are absolutely amazing. I love working in the boat industry because what we do at Oak Hill is what makes this area thrive. When I’m not at the marina, I like going boating, riding motorcycles, and hanging out with friends while tinkering in the garage on whatever project we have at the time.

I grew up 50 miles East of the lakes and was always interested in what went on in the lakes area, specifically in the summertime. I practically grew up with wrenches in my hands and began working at Oak Hill Marina around 13 years ago. I was hired at Oak Hill after completing the Marine Service Technology classes at Iowa Lakes Community College. Early in life I started taking things apart and even managed to put some of it back together. If you put my desire to fix things with my interest in the area, why wouldn’t I choose to make a career out of my favorite hobby?! My favorite part about working in the lakes area is that I get to live in a place so many people choose to vacation in. On Mondays, when most people have to head home to go back to work, I head back to the lake to work.
When I’m not at work, you can find me spending time with my wife, Jessica, and our two daughters, Rylee (9) and Madalynn (7). My favorite hobbies outside of work are camping with my family, going to dirt track races, and completing home renovation projects!

For the past 11 years I have made great memories at Oak Hill Marina. I love being able to live and work somewhere most people see as their “get-away” or vacation spot because it offers opportunities that are not available in typical rural Iowa. I chose the boat business because it was something different. To be able to work at a MRAA top 100 marina in the nation while residing in rural Iowa definitely sets us apart from what is “normal”. The boat business offers opportunities to see and experience things most people only dream of. Whether it be the people and places you run across or variety of interesting boats I get to experience first hand, I know it will always be unique.
I have been married to my wife, Ada, for 11 amazing years. Together we have two beautiful daughters Mikaya (13) and Marli (10). As a family, we love living the Okoboji lifestyle from boating and hanging out at the beach to the awesome array of entertainment in the area. Most of our hobbies involve the water, but we do occasionally go on vacation for something new. I, personally, enjoy using our “off season” to head west and go snowmobiling.
